Tacoma police investigating homicide after man found dead in Eastside home

A 46-year-old man was found dead Thursday night in an Eastside Tacoma home after a 911 caller reported that a person had been shot. Police are investigating the death as a homicide.

Tacoma Police Department officers were dispatched about 10:13 p.m. after dispatchers received the 911 call from a residence in the 1300 block of East Fairbanks Street, according to a news release issued early Friday morning. Responding officers found an unresponsive man inside the home.

Personnel with Tacoma Fire Department pronounced the man dead, according to the release. Police spokesperson Wendy Haddow confirmed the man had been shot.

Detectives and crime-scene technicians also went to the residence to speak with witnesses and gather evidence. Haddow said detectives were canvassing the neighborhood Friday for more information.

Police have released few details about the killing. It’s unclear what led up to it.

The man’s death was the 24th homicide in Tacoma so far this year and the second this week. On Tuesday, a woman was found dead in a South End apartment after her young children told a neighbor their mother was dead inside the unit.
