Police investigating body found in Tacoma ravine

Police on Monday were investigating the death of a person found in a Tacoma ravine.

A resident reported seeing a possible body about 1 p.m. Sunday below Delin Street, south of South Tacoma Way, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.

Officers recovered the body the next day because the hillside was treacherous and it was dark and raining, Cool said. Officers secured the area overnight, she said.

The person had been identified, but the name was not released pending notification of family. Cool said she didn’t know the age or gender of the deceased.

The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office had not determined a cause or manner of death Monday. Police are investigating while they wait for the information about how the person died.
