Jail attack charges dropped against inmate accused of murder
A Washington man accused of strangling his girlfriend and later attacking a fellow inmate in the Kitsap County Jail has had the jail attack charges dropped because officials are unable to find the victim.
The Kitsap Sun reports http://is.gd/3TXf39 that prosecutors say they intend to refile those charges against David Kalac.
Kalac was accused of using a piece of cardboard to escape his cell in December and enter the cell of another inmate, Wayne Allen Carlson. Kalac pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree burglary and unlawful imprisonment in that attack.
Kalac has also pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge in the death of Amber Lynn Coplin. She was found dead Nov. 4 at their apartment in Port Orchard. Gruesome photos were posted on an Internet message board. He was arrested in Oregon.
An investigator says the inmate who was attacked knew Coplin.
