A man was gunned down in the street. These 3 have been sentenced in the Tacoma drive-by
Three people have been sentenced in the killing of a man gunned down in a drive-by as he walked in the street near the Tacoma Dome in March 2020.
Marcus Moore, 22, and Dustin Lee Smith, 20, both pleaded guilty in June to second-degree murder in the death of Raymond Serrano, court records show. Co-defendant Aida Leito, 21, pleaded guilty in February to second-degree assault and drive-by shooting.
Smith, who was convicted as an accomplice, was sentenced July 22 to 10 years, three months in prison. Leito, thought to have been driving the car, was sentenced July 22 to 813 days. Moore, thought to have fired the bullet that killed Serrano, was sentenced July 7 to 15 years, six months in prison.
Court records show Serrano, 36, and a friend were walking near East D and East 26th streets March 18, 2020, when a car carrying the defendants drove past. Someone inside allegedly shouted at the victim to get out of the street. Serrano’s friend yelled back, “Nothing but love, brother,” the records show.
The driver then executed a U-turn and passed the pedestrians when someone inside in the car fired a shot at Serrano, striking and killing him, court records show.
