Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Sgt. Darren Moss said traffic was stalled after deputies used a maneuver to stop the suspect at about 9 a.m. He said traffic from westbound state Route 410 was backed up to at least East Main Avenue.

A tow truck was on the scene where the pursuit ended at 9:37 a.m., according to a tweet from the Sheriff’s Department. Deputies said the road would be cleared shortly.

Deputies became involved in the pursuit after Bonney Lake Police Department officers were dispatched at about 8:50 a.m. for a robbery at a grocery store. In a news release, the police department said officers went to the store in the 21300 block of state Route 410 and learned a suspect fled in a red Honda CRV. Witnesses saw the vehicle drive past and pointed it out to officers.

Police said they had probable cause for armed robbery, and officers tried to stop the car without success. According to the release, a pursuit was initiated in the 10400 block of 214th Avenue East.

The driver was chased from Bonney Lake to Sumner on westbound state Route 410 until deputies were able to stop the vehicle. Two people were arrested. Police found that the vehicle they were in was reported stolen out of Tacoma.

No one was injured during the robbery in Bonney Lake. During the pursuit, three patrol cars were damaged and an officer suffered a minor injury to his hand. The suspects were not injured, according to the release.
