Pierce County deputies investigating after pedestrian fatally hit by driver near Sumner

A man walking alongside a road near Sumner last week was struck and killed by a driver who fled the collision, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies are investigating.

The collision occurred at about 8:10 p.m. near the 12900 block of Valley Avenue East, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The man who was killed has not been publicly identified. Deputies said he was in his 30s.

A traffic investigator responded to the scene to gather evidence and speak with witnesses. Deputies said the victim was seen walking on the side of the road shortly before he was struck.

Investigators are working with neighbors in the area to obtain surveillance video, deputies said. It’s unclear what kind of vehicle was involved. Deputies said they do not have any suspects.
