Pierce County deputy responding to assault call collides with vehicle at intersection

A Pierce County deputy responding to a report of a domestic-violence assault Thursday afternoon collided with a vehicle at an intersection near Parkland, causing the patrol car to roll over.

Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said there were no serious injuries in the collision, which was reported at about 2:27 p.m. at the intersection of 112th Street East and Waller Road East. Deputies advised drivers to take alternate routes through the area while the incident was investigated.

Waller Road was closed from 128th to 104th streets, and 112th Street was closed from 28th Avenue East to Vickery Avenue East. Deputies said roads would remain closed for several hours.

It’s unclear how the collision occurred. According to a Facebook post from the Sheriff’s Department, the deputy was responding to an in-progress assault. A spokesperson wasn’t immediately available to comment.
