Teen arrested on suspicion of stabbing Tacoma store clerk with screwdriver in robbery

Tacoma police arrested a 15-year-old boy last weekend who is suspected of stabbing a store clerk at a smoke shop multiple times while three other teens stole merchandise, according to the police department.

Police said the boy used a screwdriver to assault the clerk. It’s unclear what the extent of the victim’s injuries were.

The robbery occurred in January, and surveillance video from the store showed the teenager wearing a Santa hat and white winter jacket while he attacked the worker. Tacoma Police Department said images of the suspects were shared with Crime Stoppers, and he was subsequently identified as a boy from Lakewood.

Police arrested the teenager Feb. 26. In a Facebook post, officers said he was booked into the Remann Hall juvenile detention center on suspicion of first-degree robbery and first-degree assault. Detectives are working to identify and arrest the other suspects.

The store is in the 8800 block of Pacific Avenue. Police said the robbers arrived in two stolen vehicles. According to the Crime Stoppers bulletin, the suspects are believed to be associated with thefts of Kia and Hyundai vehicles, as well as other robberies.

Anyone with information about the robbery suspects can contact Crime Stoppers online or by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS.
