Roy man pleads guilty to dealing child porn

A Roy man pleaded guilty Tuesday to dealing child pornography.

Owen David Gerdes, 27, was charged with five counts of first-degree dealing in child pornography, two counts of first-degree possession of the illicit images and one count of second-degree possession.

All the counts were dismissed except for one charge of dealing child pornography, to which he pleaded guilt.

Gerdes caught the Washington State Patrol’s attention in January when a detective found he was sharing the illegal images online.

Investigators tracked the IP address to Gerdes’ home, and arrested him after they found five videos and several photos of child pornography on his computer.

He reportedly told his roommates after his arrest: “Hey guys, I am sorry I kind of messed up big this time,” according to charging papers.

He’s to be sentenced Sept. 4.
