Tacoma police investigating homicide following shooting in Hilltop neighborhood

Tacoma police are investigating a homicide Tuesday afternoon following a shooting reported in the city’s Hilltop neighborhood.

Few details were immediately available. A Tacoma Police Department spokesperson said a male was reportedly killed. Police later said the victim was a 20-year-old man.

Officers responded just before 1 p.m. to a report of a shooting in the 700 block of South Yakima Avenue, one block south of Wright Park. It’s unclear what led to the gunfire. Police said a verbal altercation was heard before it occurred.

The victim was declared dead at a local hospital. Police said he was brought there by a private vehicle.

No suspects are in custody. The killing is the 11th homicide in the city so far this year. Anyone with information was asked to contact Crime Stoppers online or by calling 1-800-222-TIPS.
