Driver flees wreck on SR-167 near Puyallup after causing 3-car crash, troopers say

A driver fled the scene of a three-vehicle crash Tuesday night on state Route 167 between Puyallup and Tacoma, according to the Washington State Patrol. The driver is wanted for felony hit and run.

Two people were injured, a 37-year-old University Place woman and a 58-year-old Puyallup man, troopers said in a news release. Both were transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center. Troopers said one driver suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, and the other driver’s injuries were minor.

The wreck occurred at about 10:51 p.m. on state Route 167 just north of Gay Road. Troopers said the hit-and-run driver was heading south in a 2004 Toyota Tacoma pickup while the other two drivers traveled north in the opposite lane. The pickup driver crossed the center turn lane and struck the woman’s car, which was then hit by the driver behind her.

Troopers said the Toyota Tacoma came to a stop on the southbound, right shoulder. The pickup driver ran from the scene, trooper Robert Reyer said on Twitter. Officials did not release any suspect information.

The Washington State Department of Transportation, WSP and Riverside Fire & Rescue responded, Reyer said. The roadway was partially blocked for more than five hours.
