Gunfire at family gathering in Graham leaves man dead, his nephew arrested, deputies say

A 19-year-old man shot and killed his uncle at a family gathering in Graham on Sunday, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Deputies received a call of a shooting outside a house near 200th Street East and 114th Avenue East at 8:32 p.m., the Sheriff’s Department said.

When deputies arrived, the alleged shooter was being held down by two family members. He was immediately handcuffed and put into a cruiser.

“This was a big gathering, and the gun was on the ground,” Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Darren Moss told The News Tribune on Monday. “The victim was sitting in a chair outside of a mobile home.”

The 59-year-old victim was dead from gunshot wounds, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Detectives and a forensic team arrived on scene and spoke to witnesses and relatives. They learned the suspect arrived at a family gathering and shot his uncle, the Sheriff’s Department said.

The shooter was booked into the Pierce County Jail for investigation of first-degree murder.
