Tailgater opens fire on man driving on I-5 through Tacoma, troopers say. Witnesses sought

A 40-year-old Tacoma man was injured in a drive-by shooting on Interstate 5 early Monday morning, according to Washington State Patrol.

The shooting occurred just after 1 a.m. on southbound I-5 near South 38th Street.

The victim was driving a blue Audi A8 near the Tacoma Dome when a black Honda Accord began tailgating him, the State Patrol reported. The man sped up in an attempt to create space, but the Honda continued following him.

The man moved over to the right to let the Honda pass and occupants from the Honda shot three bullets into the man’s vehicle, one of which went through the the driver’s door and struck the man on his left leg, the State Patrol said in a news release.

Troopers are seeking witnesses with information about the Honda and whoever was inside it.

The State Patrol asks anyone with more information to contact detective Travis Carlton at 360-918-4032.
