A 9-year-old girl was shot in the arm and taken to an area hospital Saturday night, according to Tacoma police.

Police continue to investigate the incident, Tacoma police spokesman and detective William Muse said Sunday.

About 9:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 6100 block of north Owen Beach Road, which is connected to Five Mile Drive in Point Defiance Park.

The girl was in a vehicle with adults who were stopped at a stop sign at the time, Muse said. The gunshots were fired from another vehicle that police are still trying to identify, he said.

The girl was taken by a private party to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma, Muse said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Tacoma/Pierce County Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
