A man in his 40s was arrested after shooting at police during a car chase in Tacoma early Wednesday morning, police said. The suspect exchanged shots with Tacoma police, but no one was injured.

The police chase came hours after an initial disturbance call. Shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday, police received a call about a domestic disturbance at the the 5700 block of North 33rd Street.

Even though the suspect was no longer there, police determined probable cause, for the man in his 40s, on assault first degree, residential burglary, and felony harassment through talking with witnesses and victims in the area.

Shortly after 3 a.m., police found the suspect’s car and attempted a traffic stop in the 3700 block of McCarver Street, police said. The suspect drove away when he saw the cops.

Officials say the man shot at police from his car while driving. Police returned gunfire. It’s unclear when the shooting happened during the eight-minute chase.

The man ran from his car after he hit a parked car around 3300 North Stevens St., police said. He was quickly arrested.

“It was wet out,” said Tacoma Police Department spokesperson Shelbie Boyd. “We didn’t use stop sticks or a pit or anything like that.”

The suspect was taken to a local hospital and will be booked Wednesday in Pierce County jail, police said.

The Tacoma police officer who was shot at is now on paid administrative leave per department policy, police said. The Pierce County Force Investigation Team and the Tacoma Police Department will conduct criminal and administrative investigations to determine the details of the shooting.
