Man who carjacked Lexus in Fife fled to Tacoma, police say. A standoff ensued

A police chase that began in Fife and ended outside a Tacoma apartment complex led to the suspect’s surrender.

The man is suspected of armed carjacking in the 4300 Block of Pacific Highway in Fife at about 2:25 p.m. He had a handgun and stole a Lexus that was equipped with a tracking device. The Lexus drove into Tacoma where the pursuit ended. Fife Police Department and Tacoma Police Department officers tracked the man to the Lodge at Madrona Aparments. The suspect allegedly abandoned the car and ran off into an apartment, said Fife assistant police chief Aaron Gardner.

Gardner said police surrounded the building and negotiated for the suspect to surrender. The man came out of the building after some time and was taken into custody about 5 p.m.

He was booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of first-degree robbery and several felony warrants, Gardner said.
