Shooting injures person near Tacoma elementary school, which is now locked down

A Tacoma elementary school is on lockdown following a non-fatal shooting nearby Monday morning.

Tacoma police were on the scene in the 3400 block of East L Street after an individual was shot in the hand. The victim went to the elementary school to get help. Impact/Commencement Bay Elementary School is about a block away.

The shooting did not involve anyone at the school, nor did it take place at the school, Tacoma Police Department said in an X post.
