A homicide suspect is dead and a woman was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds after a standoff near Bremerton on Friday..

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said in a Facebook post that an officer-involved shooting was reported after law enforcement tracked a man being investigated for homicide to the 3000 block of Forest Drive about 3 a.m.

Shots were fired about 40 minutes later, according to Kitsap County Sheriff’s Department in an X post. The suspect fired shots at deputies throughout the morning, authorities said. No law enforcement officers were injured.

The Washington State Patrol reported Friday afternoon that its SWAT team was involved in the standoff and “became involved in an officer-involved shooting.”

The name of the dead man was not immediately released.

The investigation of the shooting will be turned over to the Pierce County Force Investigation Team and the Kitsap Critical Incident Response Team, the state patrol said.
