Police pursuit through 2 cities ends with crash in Tacoma, foot chase. Driver arrested
A police pursuit of a man originally thought to be a suspect in a rape and kidnapping ended with a crash in Tacoma.
Deputies spotted the man in a stolen truck Monday, and, when they tried to approach him, he drove off through Lakewood and headed onto northbound I-5. The chase ended at 38th and G streets in Tacoma where the man crashed into another car, sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Darren Moss said Tuesday.
The man ran off, but Tacoma Police Department officers caught and arrested him. A woman who was driving the car that was hit was taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Deputies were told she was pregnant, Moss said.
The man matched the description of a kidnapping and rape suspect, but Pierce County sheriff’s deputies later learned he was not involved in that case. Deputies found out that the man had a warrant out for vehicular assault, Moss said.
Neither Tacoma police nor deputies would say which kidnapping and rape case they originally thought the man was involved in.
The suspect was arrested for DUI and hit-and-run. More charges could be recommended, including felony alluding, possession of a stolen vehicle and second-degree driving with a suspended license, Moss said.
