UPDATE: Suspect dead after shooting two people in Parkland home, firing at deputies
The person who shot two people in a Parkland home and fired at sheriff’s deputies Tuesday morning has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.
Tacoma SWAT team members heard a bang inside the home after an hours-long standoff. About 20 minutes later they deployed a drone inside and discovered the suspect deceased, said Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Darren Moss.
The suspect fired shots during the standoff. None of the officers or deputies fired any shots. No law enforcement officers were injured, Moss said.
Moss said that the woman who was shot by the suspect suffered non-life threatening injuries but the injuries of the 39-year-old man who was shot are worse and he is in the ICU.
A dog was found unharmed in the home, Moss said.
The injured man and woman walked out of the house when officers arrived that morning. The man used to live with the couple. He went to their house Tuesday morning and began arguing with them. He then shot the couple, Moss said.
Moss said the stolen car was used during a robbery in Tacoma. It was unoccupied when Tacoma officers discovered it.
The 9700 block of South Croft Street has reopened since Tuesday night.
