An Auburn woman is accused of fatally shooting a Puyallup man on Christmas Eve and leaving his wounded body in a parking lot.

King County prosecutors charged Bridgett Cooke, 43, with second-degree murder for allegedly killing a 29-year-old man in Renton, according to the Renton Police Department on X. A King County Medical Examiner’s report shows the victim was Jerid Keith Sprague and he died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police say that Cooke, Sprague and another man were in a car in the 1100 block of Oakesdale Avenue Southwest at about 3:15 a.m. when an argument occurred. Cooke allegedly punched Sprague multiple times and then fatally shot him, according to charging documents.

Cooke allegedly removed Sprague, who was fatally wounded, from the car and quickly drove off. Officers located Cooke’s car and took her and the other man in for questioning that evening. At that time there was not enough evidence to hold either person, so they were released, Renton police said.

Further investigation revealed evidence showing that Cooke was the person who allegedly shot Sprague. She is being held on $1 million bail at King County Jail.
