A woman was shot and later died in a Lakewood motel parking lot Monday night.

Police were dispatched at 6:55 p.m. to a call of shots fired in the 5100 block of Chicago Avenue Southwest. Shortly after, a second 911 call from a woman reported that a passenger in her car had been shot, according to a Lakewood Police Department media release.

The release said that the female driver of the car pulled into the parking lot of a hotel in the 11700 block of Pacific Highway. When officers arrived, they found the car and a woman who had gunshot wounds.

Life-saving measures were taken, but the woman succumbed to her injuries and died. The driver did not sustain any injuries. Officers learned that the vehicle was associated with the shots-fired call on Chicago, the release said.

Detectives were canvassing the neighborhood and conducting interviews Tuesday morning. Officers found multiple shell casings in the roadway on Chicago Avenue.

There have been no suspects or motives identified. The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased woman, the release said.

It is the first homicide in Lakewood this year.
