Double shooting at Puyallup apartment complex critically injures 2 men, police say
A dispute at a party early Saturday morning in a Puyallup apartment complex led to gunfire in the parking lot, according to police, leaving two men with life-threatening injuries.
A 19-year-old man from Tacoma and a 25-year-old man from Lakewood were shot, the Puyallup Police Department said in a news release. No arrests have been announced. Detectives were at the scene investigating Saturday.
Officers were dispatched at about 3:20 a.m. to the 700 block of 43rd Avenue East for reports of gunfire, police said. Arriving officers found spent shell casings in the complex’s parking lot.
The younger man was found in an exterior stairwell of the apartment complex with gunshot wounds to the head, chest and extremities. Police said officers provided life-saving care to the man before Central Pierce Fire & Rescue transported him to a local hospital.
While officers were still at the scene, the 25-year-old gunshot victim turned up at an area hospital. Police said it was confirmed he was injured in the same incident. He was transported to another hospital to be treated.
It’s unclear exactly what led up to the shooting or how many people were involved.
Police asked nearby residents to check their surveillance cameras for video from the time the incident occurred. Anyone with additional information was asked to contact the police department’s tip line by calling 253-770-3343 or by email, tips@puyallupwa.gov.
