Man claims he was a JBLM soldier before stabbing Walgreens employee, deputies say
A 36-year-old man was arrested in Graham after he allegedly stabbed a Walgreens employee on Saturday.
Pierce County deputies were dispatched at 1:38 p.m. to a stabbing that happened at Walgreens at the 22000 block of Meridian East. Deputies were informed that the suspect crossed the street on 224th Street East. Deputies located the man at Carol’s Corner convenience store, according to a Pierce County Sheriff’s Department post.
Deputies arrested the man, who they said had several knives on him, and took him into custody.
Graham Fire and Rescue treated and took the 23-year-old Walgreens employee to the hospital. Deputies were told the man asked the employee for a cab. When the cab company advised there was no one available to drive him in the area, he got angry with the employee, the post said.
The man demanded the employee call Joint Base Lewis-McChord for him. He had been telling the employee he was a “Marine” and a “Navy Seal.” The suspect allegedly grabbed the employee and tried to slit his throat. The employee fought back and escaped, but was stabbed. The employee was in stable condition after being treated at the hospital, the post said.
The man was arrested for second-degree attempted murder and booked into the Pierce County Jail.
