Washington State Patrol are seeking witnesses who can provide information that will lead to the identification and arrest of the driver who struck and killed a Texas man before fleeing the scene last week.

The 39-year-old man was killed just after 2 p.m. on March 30. His yellow Ford Focus was disabled and blocking a lane on southbound I-5 near the Tacoma Mall. A green Chevrolet Silverado pickup struck his Ford, killing the man, according to a WSP news release.

The Chevrolet’s driver then stole a GMC Acadia from someone who stopped to help, and drove off from the scene. The stolen GMC was later found abandoned several miles down the road, the release said.

Any witnesses who observed the crash or the events surrounding it are asked to contact Detective Tessa Schahfer at tessa.schahfer@wsp.wa.gov or by phone at 253-538-3172.
