Woman driving at high speed crashes and strikes restroom building in Gig Harbor
A woman is facing charges after she allegedly drove recklessly and crashed, causing extensive damage to her vehicle in Gig Harbor.
A Gig Harbor police officer saw a vehicle driving at high speed on Olympic Drive just after midnight April 30. When the officer approached the vehicle and tried to perform a traffic stop, it drove off. The officer turned off his emergency equipment because the driver’s speeding did not warrant a police pursuit, according to the Gig Harbor Police Department on Facebook.
The vehicle lost control near the intersection of Olympic Drive and Hollycroft Street. It crashed into a curb and struck a tree and a restroom building located within a small park, the post said. The impact caused extensive damage to the vehicle, including a wheel assembly to separate.
The vehicle traveled over 200 feet during the crash. The driver was not significantly injured, and she estimated that she was driving at about 70 miles per hour when she lost control. The post said that the woman showed no signs that she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
She was taken to the hospital for injuries. She faces charges of reckless driving and attempting to elude a police vehicle, the post said.
