Update: Arrest made in Tacoma homicide that left woman dead Wednesday morning

Tacoma police have begun a homicide investigation after a woman’s body was discovered in the Stadium District area on Wednesday.

Tacoma Fire was dispatched to the 400 Block of North G Street regarding a deceased woman found in the area at about 2:30 a.m. The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene, the Tacoma Police Department said in a news release.

The incident is being investigated as a homicide. Tacoma Police Department spokesman detective William Muse told the News Tribune that she died from blunt force trauma. She was in her 50’s.

9:40 a.m. update: A 61-year-old man was booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder, jail records show.

Detectives were able to develop probable cause at 6:30 a.m. to make the arrest, Tacoma police say. The man was known to the victim, but police have not determined what their relationship was.

The man was interviewed and arrested near the homicide scene, Muse said.

Muse said this type of crime is a rare occurrence to happen in the neighborhood and that residents have been shocked by the news.
