Man fatally shot in Tacoma in early July officially identified. Investigation ongoing

A 66-year-old man who was fatally shot in Tacoma in early July has been officially identified, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Mark Wolff died from a gunshot wound to his chest on July 1 near the 8400 block of South Thompson Avenue. His manner of death is listed as a homicide, the medical examiner said in a news release.

Wolff was being driven to a local hospital in a private vehicle following the shooting when the driver flagged down a Lakewood aid unit at the 8400 block of South Tacoma Way. Tacoma police officers were dispatched at 4:15 p.m. for a report that the Lakewood Fire Department was performing aid on a man who was shot, the department said in a news release.

Wolff ultimately succumbed to his injuries. There have been no arrests made and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone who has information on this incident is asked to contact the police department or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
