Man shot and killed in Tacoma near I-5 Monday night. Police are investigating

A homicide investigation has begun into a fatal shooting that took place on Monday night in Tacoma near I-5 and the Emerald Queen Casino.

Tacoma police officers were dispatched just before 8 p.m. to reports of a shooting at the 2000 block of East 28th Street, according to a news release.

Officers and Tacoma Fire Department personnel attempted live-saving measures on a man who suffered gunshot wounds. He succumbed to his injuries prior to being taken to a local hospital, the release said.

Washington State Patrol troopers and Puyallup Tribal Police officers aided in the initial investigation, the release said. The shooting is being investigated as a homicide.

No potential suspect information was released, and it is unclear what led up to the shooting.
