A 21-year-old man found fatally shot on a Tacoma trail has been identified by the ME

A 21-year-old man who was found deceased at a trail in Tacoma in July was officially identified, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Aidan Schmidt died from gunshot wounds to the chest and arm on July 20 near South 19th Street and South Mullen Street. His manner of death is listed as a homicide, the medical examiner said in a news release.

Tacoma officers were dispatched to the Scott Pierson Trail just before 1:30 a.m. that day to a report that someone had been shot, The News Tribune previously reported.

Officers carried out life-saving measures until Tacoma Fire Department personnel relieved them, but Schmidt died from his injuries. Detectives are actively investigating, and no arrests had been made as of Tuesday.

Tacoma Police Department spokesman detective William Muse said no motive has been identified. If anyone has information about the homicide, they are asked to contact the Police Department or leave a tip at Crime Stoppers.
