Explosion damages car outside Pierce County home. Evidence of incendiary device found

An explosion set by an incendiary device damaged a car outside a Sumner home on Tuesday.

East Pierce firefighters were dispatched to a home on the 15200 block of Elm Street after the residents heard an explosion and saw their car on fire, Sumner spokeswoman Carmen Palmer said.

Firefighters noticed an explosive device in the car, and Sumner police were called to the scene at 4:36 a.m. The car was damaged, but there was no damage anywhere else. Palmer said the incident was suspicious. Police have not identified any suspects.

There is no indication of an ongoing threat. If anyone has further information, they can call the Sumner Police Department tip line at 253-299-5678.
