Pierce County high school student shot while walking to bus stop Tuesday morning

A Graham-Kapowsin High School student was shot in the leg while walking to a bus stop Tuesday.

Deputies were dispatched to the 8200 block of 186th Street Court East at 7:04 a.m. to reports of a shooting. A 16-year-old boy and his friend were walking to a bus stop when a sedan pulled up next to them. The suspect started shooting before they drove off, Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Sgt. Darren Moss told The News Tribune.

The teenager was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. His friend was not injured. Detectives and forensic investigators collected evidence from the scene and spoke to witnesses, Moss said.

Moss said the shooting was probably targeted, and there were no suspects in custody Tuesday afternoon.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department or make an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
