2 men killed in Bonney Lake shootout identified. Deputies still searching for suspect

Two Pierce County men who were killed in a shootout between people in two trucks in Bonney Lake have been identified, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Adam Lindsay, 46 of Sumner, died from multiple gunshot wounds on Sept. 15 near Rhodes Lake Road East and Falling Water Boulevard East, the medical examiner’s office said in a news release.

John Beers-Ferguson, 36 of Bonney Lake, died from a gunshot wound to the torso. Both of their manners of deaths are listed as homicide, the release said.

The shootout started after people in a white pickup allegedly stole a trailer from the Prairie Ridge area around 6:50 a.m. that day. People in gold-colored truck pursued the white truck, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department in a news release.

The two vehicles crashed, and shots were fired at the intersection of Rhodes Lake Road East and Falling Water Boulevard East, the release said.

“We believe they exchanged gunfire possibly during the chase and at the final collision scene,” Pierce County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Darren Moss said in the initial news release.

Deputies and officers from Sumner, Orting and Bonney Lake found a severely injured man in the back seat of the white truck and a deceased man on the ground. The severely injured man later died at a local hospital, the release said.

Moss said that the man who was found dead when officers arrived is believed to be the gold-colored truck’s driver.

Police tracked down a male passenger of that truck on 193rd Avenue East. He was arrested and booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of two counts of first-degree assault, Moss said Friday. He has since been released, and no charges have been filed against him, pending an investigation.

A woman who was a passenger in the white truck ran from the vehicles, and neighbors saw her walking through several yards. Bonney Lake and Sumner police located her on a trail behind Victor Falls Elementary School, Moss said. No charges have been filed against her.

The Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office is working with the Sheriff’s Department as the investigation continues, according to a spokesperson.

Deputies are searching for one more man who is thought to be the driver of the white truck. He ran from the scene and might have been shot.

The case is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
