Man fatally shot in Tacoma officially identified by ME. No arrests made, police say

A man who was fatally shot in Tacoma earlier this month was identified as 26-year-old Oliver Vaovasa, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Vaovasa died from a gunshot wound to the chest on Oct. 2 near the 9500 block of South Steele Street. His manner of death was listed as a homicide, the Medical Examiner’s Office said in a news release.

Tacoma police were dispatched at 8:30 p.m. after receiving multiple reports of gunfire on South Steele Street. They were informed that Washington State Patrol and Pierce County deputies found an injured man near the area where the gunfire was heard, according to the Tacoma Police Department.

Vaovasa was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. No arrests had been made as of Tuesday, police say.
