Man on the run from child-rape charges recently spotted near Tacoma park, deputies say

A 53-year-old man who has been on the run from police for over two years after being accused of child rape was recently spotted near Tacoma’s Wapato Park.

Juan Steagall-Martinez was a maintenance worker for a mobile-home park in Midland where he allegedly sexually assaulted a 6-year-old girl and two 8-year-old girls over the course of a year. Steagall-Martinez was charged in September 2022 with first-degree rape of a child and two counts of first-degree child molestation. A warrant was issued for his arrest, The News Tribune reported at the time.

Steagall-Martinez was spotted on Oct. 15 at about 5 p.m. boarding a bus on Alaska Street, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
