Suspect in Bonney Lake police high-speed chase held on $500,000 bail

Roman McFetridge allegedly was in a stolen car late Monday when he fled from Bonney Lake police and rammed a patrol car several times in an attempt to get away.

Pierce County prosecutors have charged McFetridge, 35, with first-degree assault, attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle and first-degree driving on a suspended license in connection with the chase.

He was ordered jailed in lieu of $500,000.

Charging documents gave this account:

The chase started after an officer noticed a Toyota sedan idling behind a medical facility and pulled up to speak with the driver, later identified as McFetridge.

The driver sped away with the car’s headlights off, prompting a pursuit.

During the chase, McFetridge drove 90 mph in a 35 mph zone, ran at least one red light and swerved into oncoming traffic.

He eventually spun out and ended up facing two patrol cars that had been pursuing him.

McFedridge rammed one patrol car up to four times in an attempt to flee and hit a second patrol car that tried to block him in.

Two officers suffered minor back and hand injuries while trying to arrest McFetridge, who had a state Department of Corrections warrant and an escape warrant.

Police said the car he was driving had been stolen last week.
