Group of men shoot, injure 22-year-old in Sumner. Police are looking for more information

Sumner police are investigating a shooting that left a 22-year-old injured Sunday.

Officers in the Sumner police station heard gunshots at about 11:30 p.m near the intersection of Academy Street and Kincaid Avenue. They found a 22-year-old man who was shot in the hip area, according to the City of Sumner on X.

The man said he was in Sumner to meet a female friend. They were walking when a group of males approached and fired gunshots, striking him. The man believes he knows one of the people in the group, the post said.

The man was taken to Tacoma General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the post said.

The post said the violence was an apparent isolated incident and there is no threat to the community. Anyone with information or surveillance footage is asked to contact Sumner police by leaving a message at 253-299-5678.
