South End pursuit starts with gunfire, ends with crash
A man shot at sheriff’s deputies early Monday during a high-speed chase that ended in the parking lot of a Tacoma bowling alley, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said.
No one was hurt.
The chase started after a deputy spotted a man driving recklessly about 3:30 a.m. on Waller Road and tried to pull him over. The man sped away, firing several rounds at deputies.
He eventually lost control of the car near South 72nd and South D streets, drove through a yard and crashed in the bowling alley parking lot.
The man and a female passenger ran away. Deputies used a tracking dog to find the man, who was hiding on the roof of a nearby home.
The car and the gun used to shoot at deputies were stolen, sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said.
