Pedestrian hit crossing River Road in Puyallup, suffers life-threatening injuries

A man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Monday after he was hit crossing River Road in Puyallup, police said.

The 59-year-old was not in a crosswalk and did not have the right of way when he crossed the street about 2 p.m. and was hit in the 800 block of River Road, police spokesman Scott Engle said.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene.

A stretch of westbound River Road would be closed for a few hours, police said. Drivers were asked to use Valley Avenue Northwest through Fife or West Stewart.

No further details were available.
