A car hit two scooters in the Fern Hill neighborhood Monday, leaving one dead, according to Tacoma Police Department spokesperson detective William Muse.

Officers responded to a hit-and-run fatality in the 8600 block of Tacoma Avenue South at about 11:30 p.m., Muse said. He said in an earlier voicemail message to The News Tribune that a car traveling at high speed overtook two men riding scooters in the same direction, colliding with both. One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene by Tacoma Fire Department personnel. The other was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and is expected to survive.

Police haven’t identified a suspect or taken anyone into custody yet, Muse told The News Tribune via phone at about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. He also didn’t have further updates on the condition of the surviving victim.
