Motorcyclist fatally struck by vehicle in Pierce County. Driver arrested for DUI

A 40-year-old motorcyclist was fatally struck Tuesday while driving on a highway near Stansberry Lake on the Key Peninsula.

A Grapeview man was driving his 2012 Ford F350 on westbound state Route 302 Northwest near 138th Avenue. The Port Orchard motorcyclist was driving east when the Ford crossed over into the center lane. The Grapeview man struck the motorcyclist at about 7:53 p.m., according to a Washington State Patrol news release.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.

The 35-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence, the release said. He is in custody at the Pierce County Jail. He was reportedly not wearing a seat belt.

The roadway was partially blocked for three hours and 28 minutes.
