Pedestrian struck, killed by jeep on state Route 7 in Pierce County. Driver in custody
A crash in Parkland left one person dead and another in custody Monday night.
A 48-year-old Ellensburg man was driving his Jeep Grand Cherokee on southbound state Route 7 near 126th Street East when he allegedly struck a Spanaway man who was crossing the roadway at about 7:04 p.m., according to a Washington State Patrol news release. The 28-year-old pedestrian died at the scene.
The driver continued onto northbound state Route 7 just south of 126th Street East where he stopped, the release said. He was placed into police custody on suspicion of hit-and-run, ignition-interlock violation and third-degree driving with a suspended license.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol was involved. The cause of the crash is under investigation, the release said.
The roadway was shut down for two hours and 36 minutes.
