Tacoma police detectives were investigating a hit-and-run crash Wednesday night in the city’s Eastside neighborhood that left a woman dead.

Neighbors in the residential area of East 37th and Spokane streets reported to authorities at about 7:49 p.m. that the victim was lying in a roadway, Tacoma Police Department Sgt. John Correa said.

Officers found a woman who had sustained “significant wounds” and she was declared deceased at the scene, according to Correa.

Her injuries were consistent with someone struck by a vehicle, and detectives were investigating the case Thursday as a fatal hit-and-run crash, he said.

As of Thursday morning, there were no details about the victim, and no arrests had been made, he added.
