Homicide investigation underway in Pierce County after man was found fatally shot

A man was shot and killed outside a Parkland apartment building Tuesday.

Deputies were dispatched at 4:15 a.m. to the Cedar Crest Apartments in the 1700 block of 108th Street South after a 32-year-old man was injured from multiple gunshots. Deputies began life-saving measures until fire department personnel arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman deputy Carly Cappetto told The News Tribune.

Cappetto described the shooting scene as “chaotic.” There were several shell casings littering 108th Street South in front of the apartment building, she said.

Family members of the man were at the scene and distraught, Cappetto said. It is presumed there was an altercation, but it is not known what that was over. The shooter is at large. It is not known if the victim did or did not know the shooter.

Detectives and forensics technicians are investigating. Detectives are interviewing people who were with the man prior to the incident.

108th Street South will be closed for several hours as investigators gather and process evidence.
