Two found dead in burning Gig Harbor-area house were shot, ME says

Two people found in a Gig Harbor house fire earlier this month were shot to death, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Alejandro Huitron Campos, 31, and Oliverio Huitron-Rosalez, 64, died on April 8 in a newly rented home at the 15600 block of 14th Avenue Northwest. They both died from a gunshot wound to the head as a result of a homicide, the office said in a news release Monday.

Campos and Huitron-Rosalez were identified in April, but their cause and manner of deaths initially were listed as pending.

Deputies and Gig Harbor fire crews were dispatched at 8 p.m. to find the house engulfed in flames, according to the Sheriff’s Office on Facebook.

Neighbors reported hearing a large explosion before the fire began. Two bodies were found in the home. The Sheriff’s Office said it was investigating the “suspicious nature of the fires and deaths.”

The investigation is ongoing, and the Sheriff’s Office did not have more information to share, spokesperson deputy Carly Cappetto said via email Monday.

“No suspect(s) are in custody, and this continues to be an open investigation,” she wrote.
