Police activity in Puyallup blocks off roadway. Public asked to avoid the area
Police activity in Puyallup has blocked off several streets Thursday morning for a domestic-violence incident.
Police are in the area of 2nd Street Southeast because they are negotiating with a person who is refusing to come out of their house, Puyallup Police Department spokesperson Capt. Kevin Gill told The News Tribune.
Gill said the incident started as a threat and then progressed. The victim is safely out of the house and with police.
There are mental health specialists and negotiators on scene as police are safely trying to get the person outside for arrest.
The roadway between 4th Avenue Southeast and 7th Avenue Southeast is closed. Police are in the area of 2nd Street Southeast, according to the Puyallup Police Department on X at 10:21 a.m.
The post said there is no active threat to the community right now. The public is asked to avoid the area.
Afternoon update: A man has been arrested following negotiations, according to Puyallup police.
The man reportedly had a firearm before his surrender and a 5-year-old was in the house with him, Gill said. The child is now safe.
The roadways will reopen shortly, police say.
