1 dead, 1 hospitalized after high-speed crash near Parkland apartment complex
A high-speed crash in front of Monterra Apartments left a driver in critical condition and her passenger with fatal injuries Saturday, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that deputies responded to the fatal crash just before noon in the 400 block of 112th Street East. Both the driver, a 54-year-old woman, and the passenger, a 65-year-old man, in the single-vehicle crash were transported to the hospital. The man died enroute, the post said.
The vehicle crashed into a fence and a tree, sheriff’s spokesperson deputy Carly Cappetto told The News Tribune. She said evidence suggests the wreck was a “very high-speed crash,” and that “to cause a collision like that, it’s well over the speed limit into reckless driving.”
The driver is suspected of vehicular homicide and DUI, and deputies believe there were drugs aboard the vehicle, according to Cappetto.
