Tacoma man killed from shotgun wound identified. His stepson has been charged
A Tacoma man who was allegedly murdered by his stepson last week has been identified, according to the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Kevin Fordham, 66, died on June 12 near the 5800 block of Pacific Avenue from a shotgun wound to the head. His manner of death was listed as a homicide, the office said in a news release.
Jason Matthew Frederick, 45, was charged with first-degree murder for the shooting. He pleaded not guilty and is being held at the Pierce County Jail on a $1 million bail, The News Tribune reported.
Frederick is accused of intentionally killing his stepfather as the victim sat in a recliner chair in their living room. according to charging documents.
Frederick’s mother told detectives that her son has been “abnormally paranoid” and focused on his stepfather, documents show.
After his arrest, Frederick allegedly told police that he shot Fordham and later made several allegations against the victim, including that the defendant was being starved by him.
Frederick allegedly told police, “He’s been married to my mom for a long time ... things just started getting more intense, you know. It got to feeling like it was gonna be me or him first,” documents show.
