Pierce County woman among 2 killed after car drives into Puget Sound

Two people died and three people were injured after a car drove off the Edmonds Ferry Terminal and into the water Tuesday.

A 29-year-old Tulalip man was driving a 2012 Mini Cooper westbound on the Edmonds Ferry Terminal Loading Ramp while carrying four other passengers. He drove through the barrier of the loading ramp and the car landed in Puget Sound, according to a Washington State Patrol news release.

The man was allegedly in a chase with Snohomish County deputies and trying to elude them, according to a King 5 report.

Three people, including the driver, were injured. Portsha C. Sapp, 45 of Lakewood, and Melanie E. Ross, 48 of Auburn, died at the scene, the release said,

It is unknown if anyone in the vehicle wore seatbelts, the release said. Drugs or alcohol were involved, investigators allege.
