Motorcyclist dead after striking vehicle at high speed in Pierce County

A high-speed crash in the Summit area of Pierce County left a motorcyclist dead Thursday evening.

Deputies were dispatched at about 4:55 p.m. to 104th Street East and Vickery Avenue. Shortly before the wreck, multiple callers reported to 911 that the motorcyclist was weaving in and out of traffic very rapidly, Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson deputy Carly Capetto told The News Tribune.

When the driver of a vehicle made a left turn on Vickery, they did not see the motorcycle driving by at a high speed. The motorcyclist crashed into vehicle, and the rider died upon impact, Cappetto said. The vehicle’s driver was uninjured and cooperated with deputies.

The motorcyclist was a man likely in his 20s, she said. The investigation showed there was “significant amounts” of drugs onboard his motorcycle. The motorcycle was also unlicensed with no registration.

Cappetto said since the motorcyclist died, there will not be a larger investigation into the case. There will be no charges filed against the vehicle’s driver.
